Remove up to 25 pints of water per day in rooms up to 3,000 square feet with this fully portable dehumidifier. Its full-function electronic controls include a simple "on/off" button, a "fan" button for changing the fan speed to either high or low, helpful indicator lights, and a digital readout that shows the room's relative humidity. Press the "Cont" button for continuous dehumidifying at the lowest relative humidity (25 percent). To set a specific humidity level, use the up and down arrows; the dehumidifier provides a maximum setting of 80 percent and a minimum setting of 35 percent. The unit operates between 41 and 96 degrees F, and its washable filter removes both moisture and airborne particulates. When the water bucket reaches its 17-pint capacity, the unit will shut down and the "water full" indicator will illuminate. Its easily accessible collection container can be removed for emptying at the nearest sink. For added convenience, the unit can be set up to continuously drain if located near a suitable drain, and its durable casters make it easy to maneuver. To ensure best results, remove the filter every two weeks and wash with clean water. The water bucket can be cleaned with warm water and detergent, and the cabinet wipes clean easily using a damp cloth. The 25-pint dehumidifier measures 16-3/4 by 13-3/4 by 24-5/8 inches and carries a one-year warranty.
Poor engineering, poor execution I have the 45 pint version of this dehumidifier and agree with the comments that the external drain is very poorly designed and very poorly executed. When I received the unit I had to take a panel off to discover how to use the external drain as the manual was not clear. When I did look inside it was obvious how the drain was supposed to work, and it was obvious that it was not going to work because inside the case there is a thin walled plastic tube (not the tiny diameter tube the other review mentions) which was kinked and would not allow water to pass. After repairing that and putting it all back together the drain worked fine for a week or two until the tiny hose mentioned in the other review became clogged. I had a Whirlpool which was very much like this unit. It had a drain that worked fine, but the unit stopped working after two years of use--it lost its refrigerant. This unit seems to have no particular advantage over the Whirlpool unless it is still working after two years. If so I may think it is a better machine than the Whirlpool, but currently I think they are both just more junk from China that work barely well enough to get out the door of the store. I don't know if there's anything better on the market for the price. Is anyone else old enough to remember when a refrigerator from Frigidaire would last for thirty or forty years? Those were made by someone else. It does what it says After quite a bit of research, I settled on this brand/model for a storage room in my basement that was starting to get that musty basement smell. The room is about 500 square feet and this dehumidifier seems to be working quite well. Set up was easy, basically just take it out of the box and turn it on. Since there is a floor drain in my basement storage room, I set up the unit to drain through the provided hose to eliminate having to empty the catch pan. There was an attachment included in the box to hook up the drain hose to a garden house, but it was shattered and not useable, so the unit sits right next to the floor drain. The unit itself is noisy, about as loud as a box fan on medium setting, which isn't a problem since it's in a closed room in the basement. It also generates heat, which in the winter time is a good thing in the otherwise cold basement. My storage room is about 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the basement but it doesn't have that musty smell anymore. I would give it 5 stars, but the drain hose is only 6" long, and it is difficult to attach, and the garden hose adapter was broken. Although not a problem in the winter, the heat generated by this unit may not be as welcome in the summer months. Overall, after a month of use, I would recommend this product. Continuous draining? Forget it! I have no doubt that this dehumidifier will work well if you want to empty the collection bucket (which you would have to do at least once a day). But if you want the water to drain continuously into a sump well or a French drain, you're out of luck. I got a larger version of this same model home and discovered that instead of taking a standard hose attachment, the hose adapter necessitated the water passing through a plastic piece that had a diameter of about 1/16 of an inch! (see the pictures and tremble) Nevertheless I tried it, and found in the morning that the teeny-tiny space was already clogged shut. Took it off and water came out the hose, so the blockage was in the teeny-tiny attachment. This was a recipe for disaster, and one of the stupidest engineering fiascos I've ever seen, and the people at the store agreed with me when I returned it for a Whirlpool, which has a standard attachment. If any dust or scum gets into that tiny Frigidaire hose, it stops draining. Also, the manual described wrongly where to put the rubber cap that you take from the back of the spigot, and when I put it in the supposedly correct place, it fell right out. I called Frigidaire's customer service number, and the results were laughable, since I talked to a woman who had apparently never even touched a dehumidifier, and was getting all her info from the same manual that I already had. Avloid this one, unless you don't mind emptying the bucket and never go on vacation in the summer.

Soleus Air CFM-40 E 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat
From Soleus Air

The first portable dehumidifier on the market, weighing less than half that of other models. It has built-in wheels and a carrying handle, allowing it to be transported with little effort. With 40 pint large capacity front removable water bucket.
Amazon Sales Rank: #1837 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: White Brand: Soleus International Inc. Model: CFM-40 Number of items: 1 Dimensions: 13.00" h x 18.50" w x 24.00" l, 36.00 pounds

Works great! I installed this unit in my basement about 8 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly ever since. Things I noticed: If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically (as some other units do.) If you want to use the continuous drainage (which I highly recommend) via a hose, you have to punch out a plastic disc on the side of the unit. I would have designed a screw-type plug that was replacable, but they didn't think of that. Anyway, once you punch the quarter-size disc out it's out forever. If you choose to use the continuous drainage feature, you will need to pick up a hose with an inner diameter of 15mm (.59" or just over half an inch.) I went to the local DIY center and found some clear tubing that has worked well. The unit can operate down to 2-degrees C (36-degrees F), which will be great for continuous operation in the garage to keep the tools from rusting. Has three fan settings: med, high and quiet. "Quiet" really is quiet, and could probably work just fine in a bedroom. Though, it does warm the room it's in. How much it warms it depends on the humidity setting. Four settings: The humidty level (humidstat) can be set to "continuous dehumidification" (which is the default setting), 50%, 60% and 70%. The fan will continue to run but the dehumidification processor will turn off when it reaches the selected humidity level. Cool. I mean, that's when the fan will just blow room-temp air. A full drainage tank will stop the unit and illuminate a "tank full" indicator light. The unit is not that heavy -- maybe for some, but not nearly as heavy as some people make it sound. It's 30.8 pounds. According to the instructions: You will need at least 21 cm (about 8 inches) of clearance in front, behind and side to side. Air blows out of the top of the unit, so you'll need to make sure it's clear as well. There are movable louvers on the top to direct the air straight up, 45-degrees or almost straight ahead. Power consumption: CFM-25E is 220W // CFM-40E is 330W I highly recommend this model dehumidifier. ***15-month UPDATE: It is still working like a champ! We haven't had one single problem with it, and I don't foresee ever really having one in the near future. I've been running this thing nonstop and it has only required me to clean the filter on the back (which takes 5 minutes.) It has remained as quiet as the day I bought it. It's awesome! Works well I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly basement use, but wanted one quiet enough for use upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. My refrigerator is louder. I also own a Fedders 45 pint unit and a Whirlpool 65 pint noise maker. The Fedders (Maytag) was the quiet champ untill I purchased the Soleus Air CFM-40E. The Whirlpool removes an amazing amount of water, but can be heard UPSTAIRS when running in the basement. So it is used only when needed. The Soleus Air is so quiet I have to go down the basement stairs and visually check to see if the unit is on. Can't say that for many dehumidifiers. My only complaint is that the fan is always on, even when it has reached the set humidity level. This prevents the short cycling the others do, on for 2 minutes off for 2 minutes or so, but I think prevents an Energy Star certification. At 2.9 amps it draws significantly less than the Fedders 5.6 amps and the Whirlpool's 7.9 amps. The Soleus Air works great (so far) upstairs in the spring, when it is cool but damp, like the weather this week. Here in Wisconsin it is in the 60's but rainy, so the house is humid. Running the central air is not necessary since the house is not hot. So I use a dehumidifier, which makes the house seem less clammy. I would recommend the Soleus Air CFM-40E to anyone who is looking for a small, really quiet, relatively light, medium capacity (40pint) dehumidifier that simply does what is supposed to do (remove water from air) with out excess noise. *******3 Year Update****** This dehumidifier has been working flawlessly for 3 years of nearly constant use. Other than cleaning the filter and the occasional collection tank clean out, maintenance has been minimal. I still can not get over how quiet this unit is, and it has not gotten any louder with age. I highly recommend this product, yes it is not cheap, but it works really well, and is very well built. Highest possible recommendation. Excellent balance of efficiency and effectiveness I currently have 5 dehumidifiers in different locations, and this one is the strikes the best balance of efficiency, reliability, effectiveness, and quietness. There are other models that can pull more moisture out of the air more quickly, but they are invariably much louder and MUCH more expensive to run.

LG 45 Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls - Energy Star Rated

Works great, but it's LOUD The thing pulls humidity from the air more quickly than other units I've owned. The digital controls are great - with the analog ones, there's a lot of guesswork and tweaking to find the right humidity level. This is probably just the thing for you if you're putting it down in your basement and out of earshot. But this thing is *loud*. It's like putting marbles in a blender and setting it on chop. Look elsewhere if you want something to use in an apartment or the like. Junk Worked well for about a year, then the sensor on the bucket stopped working, causing the unit to overflow. Got that fixed, but the problem started happening again after another few months. Now, after two years, the thing has essentially stopped working. It runs, sure, but it doesn't draw any water out of the air. Very disappointed. CH01 We have a very damp basement and the dehumidifier ran for a year before the CH01 code appeared in the window. The manufacture's owner manual doesn't tell for what CH01 stands; doing on on-line search produced results that it is related to the bucket switch and there is no way to repair it. It also appeared from all the sites that it happens after about a year. I wouldn't recommend this LG dehumidifier or any of the other sizes.

Can Not Extract A Tear Drop I bought this unit to replace a 45 pint LG low temperature model that stopped working. It's for my finished basement that has an average temperature of 55-60 degrees. Last night, it didn't extract any moisture at all, though I had it set to "Max Dry." Today, I set it to "Continuous" and left it for an hour. I was skeptical of its "Accu-Dry" sensor, because my LG ALWAYS was able to extract something from the air if I set it to always on. I only have 30 days to return the unit, so I don't want to wait for the humidity of summer. I set up a humidifier 4 feet away from it and still nothing. I then put the humidifier in front of it, and still nothing. It cycles on, runs for a minute and then seems satisfied with the humidity level and cycles off. Meanwhile, the humidifier is blowing humid air all around it, and this unit is not extracting a single teardrop in its VERY small bucket. Nice looking unit, but useless. I will most likely buy another LG, which happens to still be in stock with the vendor I bought this unit from. Just awful! Yes, a dehumidifier makes noise. Having owned two others, each a different brand, I knew that already. But I should have paid more attention to a succinct review of this item that I saw elsewhere: "It wakes the dead." I would simply compare the sound it makes to a 747's engines - there's nowhere in the house one can get away from it, and that's the truth. It also doesn't remove as much moisture in the same amount of time as did my humble little Maytag 30-pint model, and it leaks. No, I didn't keep it. What a relief that return was. Worked for 18 months and useless I purchased this model whirlpool dehumidifier because of its high rating on a consumer web site and whirlpools good customer service reputation. What a bunch of horse manure. Since sears purchased whirlpool and now handles warranty repairs it is awful. I called the 800 numbers was told that limited warranty, 5 years on sealed parts could only be repaired by authorized service center since a tech can't come to my house outside of Chicago, no tech in this area, WOW sears is based in Chicago. Oh well I will take it to SEARS, great a sears is 2 miles away, there everywhere. They took 2 months, got the unit back dirty and ding up, and it didn't work it still didn't work after 2 months at a repair center. I called back and they said, it would now cost a minimum of $45 and may cost up to $150. I paid $199 for the unit at Lowes on sale. I have read up on whirlpool dehumidifiers and I have noticed complaints are after 16 months of service, most don't last 2 years. Lousy customer service, I think I will never buy another whirlpool anything. I filed a complaint with the BBB, maybe they will help get it fixed right this time.

Comfort-Aire issues I purchased this Comfort-Aire dehumidifier about a month ago, and a couple of weeks after turning on this unit, it would shut down displaying an error message "CH" and "01". I could not reset the unit, and after several attempts to get back to operational, I contacted the manufacturer (who is apparently LG Electronics). The national service manager sent me an email and stated that he did not know what this error message meant, but to try to reseat the bucket in the unit. Well, I was not using the bucket, as I have the drain hose going directly to my sump pit, but I did the bucket check anyway with no luck. I did mention this to him and he then directed me to their 800 number for service support. Support???? Please. When I contacted the support number, they mentioned that the unit would have to be dropped off at a local?? service center, as their service reps do not make house calls. I'm okay with that, however the first number they gave me, the owner of the service facility had never heard of Comfort-Aire, or the manufacturer Heat Controller Inc.????? He suggested I call back the 800 number and let them know. So, after calling the 800 service center back again, they gave me another number to a service location that turned out to be some guys house that moonlights as a service technician out of his garage?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm still dealing with this issue after 4 weeks, and after several emails to the national service manager, he has not responded at all. I am giving this unit one star, as there is not an option to select zero. Not only is the product of questionable quality in my opinion, the support structure is ridiculous. Noi-seee! This is just an initial reaction. The thing is running now in my basement and it is NOISY. I'm not talking about a loud hum. It's really more of a pitched buzz (at B below middle C). I can hear it all the way upstairs. Thankfully at the moment it's not that humid and I think it's going to stop soon, once it reaches the desired humidity. But the sound borders on noise pollution, and those of you thinking about the product should consider this before buying. Great dehumidifier One of the best things about this dehumidifer is that you can add a kit to it and have it drain out directly to a sump pump or someplace else, eliminating the dumping. This extra capacity unit is great, and some days we no longer had to dump twice a day. Got smart and drained it out into the sump pump. Love being able to see the readings. I wouldn't call this a standard dehumidifer.

Effortlessly remove excess moisture from the air with this energy-efficient portable dehumidifier. Great for damp basements or any musty room of the house, the unit not only helps allergy sufferers breathe easier, it also helps prevent problems often caused by excess humidity--peeling paint, damaged wood, and mold growth. Durable rolling casters make it easy to move the lightweight dehumidifier from room to room, wherever it's needed most. The dehumidifier quietly removes up to 70 pints of water from the air every 24 hours. When the water bucket has filled to capacity, the unit will automatically shut off and the "bucket full" indicator will light up. Water can be automatically emptied by attaching a standard garden hose (not included) to the continuous drainage port on the side of the dehumidifier. This will allow the unit to run continuously without having to empty the water bucket. The dehumidifier also provides a push-button electronic control panel for selecting one of three fan speeds, increasing or decreasing the room-humidity level, or setting the two- to four-hour timer, which turns the unit off automatically after the after the elapsed time. Other highlights include an "on" indicator light, an automatic defrost function, low-temperature operation down to 40 degrees F, loss of power protection with auto restart, and a permanent washable filter. The unit not only provides exceptional performance and convenient features, it has also earned an Energy Star rating, which means it meets strict energy-efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as on greenhouse gas emissions. All of which means more comfortable indoor air without excess costs or impact on the environment. The 850-watt dehumidifier measures 11 by 15-1/3 by 23-5/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
Works great in my basement My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting. The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product. Awesome deal! Got this unit for a great price from stacks and stacks! Great delivery time, well packaged for shipping. Unit works great so far, noise is not too bad, but it is a 70 pint, going to be louder than smaller units, as expected. I am running this in my utility room of an otherwise finished basement, so I am usually not in the same room with it trying to watch TV or listen to music. I always seem to over-research things like this before buying, glad I did this time, perfectly happy with this unit and would definitely recommend the product and the seller! WORKS! Really, really, really well! I bought the dehumidifier about a month ago, and have been using it in my incredibly humid bedroom. It removes a LOT of moisture in the air up there. The space is about 400 sq feet, and there is no more condensation on any of the windows, not even the ones all the way across the room from it. I don't recommend running it at night though, as it will dehumidify YOU! It's also a bit noisy and blows cold air. But it has really helped a LOT in keeping mold at bay, especially, which is something we worry about here in the Pacific NW. It is very easy to empty, and on average probably removes at least two gallons of air from the room a DAY. -H

Royal Sovereign BDH-550 Dehumidifier 55 Pint
From Royal Centurian

Royal Sovereign has revolutionized dehumidifiers with a new 55 Pint bucket-free design that maximizes convenience and performance. There are no heavy buckets of water to empty. No lifting. No mess. No spills. Homeowners can now truly “set it and forget it”. The powerful pumping system can pump up to an amazing 10 vertical feet and condensation can be easily drained into a sink, drain, or even out a window. Conventional dehumidifiers require that buckets are emptied 2 or 3 times a day. Since consumers generally empty buckets once a day, dehumidification power is reduced by 50% to 65%. There are no buckets to empty with the new Royal Sovereign dehumidifiers, so consumers now get full dehumidification power.

decent dehumdifier I've been looking to get a dehumidifier for a while and finally settled on this dehumidifier. I really like the bucketless feature because I never empty buckets of water now. Nice for my back. Also the design is nice and compact so it won't take up a lot of space. I haven't had any trouble with the pump or anything like that. I always double check that the hose doesn't have anything blocking it because it will stop the dehumidifier. I would recommend calling their customer service if anyone has a problem. I called them because I thought something was wrong with the pump/hose and they just walked me through any possible reasons it wouldn't work. They were really nice and on top of everything. Noisy The Good: The product performs as mentioned in other reviews. It is effective. I plugged it in last night and dropped the output hose into a bucket to measure the collection out of curiosity. By morning, the unit had collected nearly a gallon of water. That is the good part. The bad side is that this thing is NOISY. I read reviews on-line that said the unit is quite. I even read one that said it was as quite as an "average" fan. Lemme tell you, if your fans are that loud, it is time to change them out. This thing sounds like on older style window unit AC...seriously every bit as loud. Other reviews stated that when the pump kicked on the unit was unbearably noisy. I hate to inform anyone who doesn't know this. When you run a sump pump without any water in it to pump...it is going to be noisy. However, if you allow some water to get into the unit and allow it to work as it is supposed to, the pump is not even noticeable compared to the 747 like noise made by the fan unit. So, basically, the unit works well. Just don't plan on having any quite conversations in the same room as the dehumidifier. Good product so far I purchased this item for my basement, which gets in water when it rains and is very humid most of the time. I wanted a dehumidifier that I could put down in the basement to maintain a lower humidity. I also did not want to have to deal with emptying buckets of water. I'm very pleased so far with this unit. My basement has dropped from 95% humidity to 70% in a day and a half. I ran the small tubing included with the product out the window of my basement, and set the dehumidifier on the floor. It pumps out the water perfectly. The unit has controls for the pump (on/off), humidity control (in 5% increments, down to 30%), and fan speed (H/M/L). The pump is required when pumping the water up and out, and it turns on and off as needed to empty the internal reservoir. The condenser turns off when the humidity reaches the desired level, and the fan keeps running. It is reasonably quiet, but not 'whisper quiet.' Louder when the pump or condenser is running. When it is just the fan, it sounds like a regular fan. This is definitely a nice product if you don't want to constantly have to empty buckets of water.

Perfect Little Dehumidifier I have a small bathroom with no windows. We've had a problem with mold because of the poor ventilation. I bought this little dehumidifier and it's dramatically helped. It's so quiet I forget forget it's there. Whenever the moisture catcher thing gets full, I pull it out and that's all I need to do to maintain it. The mold problem is gone and I feel healthier because of it! problems not addressed by Newair I first purchased this dehumidifier in 10/06 and it quit working almost immediately. Newair did replace it and the replacement worked until June, when it suddenly quit functioning. I contacted Newair re the warranty and got no response. Tiny dehumidifier but packs a punch!!! When I first saw this dehumidifier I couldn't stop laughing. This little bitty thing was supposed to tackle my moisture overload in a large storage shed? I figured that something was better than nothing until I could buy a better(bigger) dehumidifier. I hooked the little one up and come back the next day to check out the progress and much to my surprise the little-bitty sucked up an inch of water...in one night!!! Now I am so confident that this will do the job I will recommend this for anyone with a similar problem. The free shipping was a great plus as well!!!

Great unit for my Michigan basement! I'm just a satisfied buyer, that's all. I bought this dehumidifier from another source because I NEEDED it immediately but I thought I would write a review for my favorite store ... Amazon. My unit has is the FDL50S1 and has slots in the face instead. I'm sure it's the same spec's and quality as this model. After full internet investigation I went out to visit the all the store's in a 20 mile radius of me to view some of the models. Wasting $25 worth of gas in my truck driving to every appliance store I could find, I bought this unit. It's has great clean appearance. I unpacked it, plugged it in, set it on low fan and within 3 hours the large bucket was almost half full of humidity from my basement. I plan on using the easy to get to hose adaptor for draining in the near future but for now, the bucket is great and easy to remove. The fan is strong but I can't hear the compressor. There is NO buzzing from the unit, just smooth quiet fan sound. It makes no more noise than a good floor fan. It's in my cold basement and is good to go in 41 degrees if needed. It's important to if you have airconditioning. The basement gets COLD in the summer. My opinion is, if it doesn't have a good fan, it won't circulate the air to remove the humidity. It draws air in from the front and out the side. This makes it easy to slide up along a wall out of the way. The digital controls are on top. The casters are large and it rolls smooth on my in door out door carpeting in the basement. The only thing it doesn't do is have an auto restart if the power goes out ... but I don't care. It's just not that important to me .... I can push a button if I loose power. With my past experience, I rate this as a perfect and very smooth unit. I thought I would reward a great product ... there's so much junk out there, when I find a good one, I share my satisfaction. Very effective but not quite. After many hours of reading through Amazon reviews looking for the perfect dehumidifier, I realized that they are none. Most dehumidifiers out there are not made to last anymore. They tend to break in a year or one summer season from what reviewers posted. Some reviewers mentioned that warranty is useless because of the labor cost to replace the covered parts. I didn't want to spend $200 on a dehumidifier that lasts one season. I'm sure you don't either. I ended up with the Frigidaire unit because of the lack of reviews (good or bad) and the 5 year compressor (1 year parts and labor) warranty. I have used it for two months now and it works well in drying up my basement. Hopefully it lasts. Here are my Likes and Dislikes... Good: Strong fan to circulate the air Good: Wheels makes it easy to move the heavy unit Good: Handle on top of the dehumidifier and on the top of the bucket Good: Well priced. (Long Islanders - Qualify for the $10 LIPA rebate) Bad: It is not quiet but for a basement unit I don't mind the noise Other Note: Kill-A-Watt meter shows that uses around 600 watt of electricity with the compress on. Works Very Well First off, I have to question the 1-star review by N8N. The instruction manual addresses the major complaints in the first couple of pages. The reason the fan runs continuously for the first couple of days is because it runs in CO (continuous operation) mode until the humidity level is lowered in the room. My unit is on day 2, and has so far sucked about 80 liters out of the air. I put it in my basement corner (with plenty of room on top and sides for airflow), and the fan runs continuously in order to lower the humidity level. After another day or two the fan will stop, at which point you can adjust how humid (or not) you want the room to be. The unit is pretty attractive for what it is, and has a convenient handle on the top and nice rollers on the bottom. Even my wife commented on it, which is saying something. The tray is just a bit too snug to make emptying the reservoir an easy task (you have to work it a little), but this is my only nitpick. Better to have it tight than lose, which would facilitate spills. Of the 2 settings for the fans, both are loud. :) The lower speed is quieter, but you wouldn't want to try to fall asleep with this thing in the room. It is best used in a basement or room that doesn't occupy the majority of your time. It's not jet plane loud, but it's not quiet (are any of these things actually "quiet"?). Still, it does a really good job. My basement is noticeably drier in just the short time I've been running it. It's the rainy season right now (early May), and any damp / moisture smells that naturally occur this time of the year are absent. It does what it's supposed to do, which makes me happy. I'd recommend the unit to anyone who needs a basement dehumidifier.

The Eva-Dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier uses Peltier Technology (no compressor) which makes it light and quiet. It extracts the moisture from the air and stores it in a spill-proof reservoir. Just plug it in and it quietly dries the air. Brand: Eva-Dry Model: Edv-1100 with cloth Dimensions: .2 pounds

It worked great for 2 years I bought the Eva dehumidifier a little less than 2 years ago and it seemed to work great. I had it in an average size bedroom. It was fairly quiet and it was just the right size for my needs, as it would fill up after about 4 days. It shut off when full so no worries and was really simple & quick to empty. I was surprised at how much water it actually would accumulate - it holds a pint. I put a little hand towel under it just in case but there was never any significant leaking. On a wood nightstand, I just didn't want any moisture damage to the wood and there never was. I would have given the product 5 stars if it had lasted a couple more years but it didn't. I know it didn't cost a lot but I think things should last a little longer than 2 yrs and now when I go looking for a new one, I have to assume I'm paying $50 for something that will work < 2 yrs and contribute to our landfills. I started looking for a new product and I'm sad to say that the reviews for comparable are not very good. In fact, I noticed the same problem in reviews for other brands but those brands didn't even last a year! It seems to have been the same problem; one day the thing just doesn't turn back on. Mine got full so it automatically shut off. After I emptied it, it didn't turn back on. I waited a few days with it unplugged, I made sure the plug connection was good but it still doesn't turn on. Reading other brand reviews though, it seems those stopped working within days or a few months. Maybe I should be happy almost 2 yrs? I liked the size, ease of use and fairly quiet fan, plus it didn't look that bad or bulky sitting on a nightstand. Maybe mine was a lemon and another one would last longer. I hope so because I haven't found anything better and even if I pay for a better quality, more reliable product, I haven't found one which has all the positive attributes this one had. I should add that this unit just sat there and never had any misuse. It didn't get dropped, knocked over nor did it experience any power surges. There are many other things I own that go through abuse and I would be surprised if they lasted 2 yrs but this one I would have expected a little bit longer life from. Again, it may have been an unlucky fluke for me but you may want to consider when buying that it may not last 2 yrs. Hope this is helpful. Works great for me I currently live in a VERY humid environment. I decided to get a dehumidifier after having some problems with mold in one of my closets. I had been wiping them down with bleach but it would still come back because it is just so humid here. After buying this and putting it in my closet I'm having no problems. It's only been a few weeks but if it wasn't working I would have noticed by now. It's very quite. My bed is right next to my closet and I can't hear it. It's also the perfect size. Since it is smaller I have to empty it every two or three days but that doesn't bother me at all. This is a great product! Highly recommended! SMALL AND PRACTICA - Nice for the price I bought this dehumidifier for my small bathroom, which has no windows or vents. The walls were always wet from the shower and none of my towels ever dried. After I began to use this dehumidifier, everything in my bathroom was dry. It is also pretty quiet. I wouldn't give up this little machine for anything! The product features include lights to indicate that the machine is working; a see-through water containment system; and an indicator light to let you know when the container is full. It is very easy to remove and empty the water container. Its petite size makes it possible to station the machine in the smallest of space....but it does a big job!! The Eva-Dry EDV-1100 does a great job, at a great price!! I absolutely recommend it!! I even use the collected water for watering plants!!

Sunpentown SD-350 60-Watt Mini Dehumidifier
From Sunpentown

This Mini Dehumidifier uses Peltier (Thermo-Electric) Technology to provide whisper quiet operation. The compact size is ideal for nurseries, small bedroom, closets and wardrobes. Automatically switch off when water tank is full, with indicator light.
Amazon Sales Rank: #99806 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: Silver & Black Brand: Sunpentown Model: SD-350 Dimensions: 20.00" h x 9.00" w x 10.00" l, 5.15 pounds
Easily remove excess moisture from the air with this mini dehumidifier. The unit not only helps allergy sufferers breathe easier, it also helps prevent problems often caused by excess humidity--peeling paint, damaged wood, and mold growth. The dehumidifier uses Peltier (thermo-electric) technology, which means whisper-quiet operation with no noisy compressor, vibration, or refrigerant to deal with. Water collects in the 2-liter transparent water tank, and the unit automatically switches off when the water tank needs to be emptied. Its compact size makes it a nice choice for in a nursery, small bedroom, closet, cupboard, or under a sink. Other highlights include "power" and "full tank" indicator lights, a 12-volt DC adaptor (UL listed), and a convenient carrying handle for simple transport. The 60-watt mini dehumidifier weighs about 3-1/2 pounds and measures 8 by 5 by 13 inches.
please pass on this one I bought this through Target--their reviews said it was great! It seemed to dehumidify, although slowly. However, I was concerned that the "brick" on the AC cord was hot, so hot that I couldn't hold it for more than a few seconds. I found out online that such a problem could be a fire hazard! I called the company, Sunpentown, and they mailed out another cord with the instructions that if this one was also abnormally hot (which it was), I should mail the whole unit back (which I did). Sounds like they've had this problem more than once before. The replacement unit also has a really hot cord. So I suppose this merry-go-round will continue until they hopefully refund my money. TOTALLY WORTHLESS! This product is totally worthless. I ran this for five days and it only collected about 1 ounce of water. And I had 55% humidity in my house! It is worthless. I had it in a tiny room and it didn't drop the humidity 1%. It is also very loud and the AC block gets super hot. A sure sign of a worthless poorly made piece of junk. The worse part is, I ordered it here on Amazon, but some other company shipped it to me. Now Amazon won't give me a refund. They say to email them and they will set up a procedure for you to return the item. I have e-mail twice over the past three days and nothing! I needed a dehumidifier for making screens for screen printing on t-shirts. I went to Lowes and bought a small $150 unit. In a few hours the humidity in the room dropped from over 50 to the low 40's and it had collected about eight ounces. Take my advice. Buying a $50 humidifier was a huge mistake and a waste of time. I will seriously think twice about ever ordering from amazon.com. Call me old fashion but I think I should be able to return a product to the store(in this case website) I bought it from. Imagine buying something from Lowes that is defective, then when you try to return it they say. Oh you can't return that here. You have to return it to Joe's Hardware! I would give this product and Amazon.com negative stars if I could. Power cord issues The unit worked ok until the plug melted. The part of the plug that connects to the unit got so hot it melted the plastic. Major fire hazard. I am going to see if I can get a refund.

Haier HDN655E 65-Pint Capacity Electronic Control Dehumidifier
From Haier

This high-tech Haier dehumidifier makes removing the moisture from your home effortless. Electronic controls and a digital humidity display provide exact measures of moisture and easy-to-use controls. Even better, the unit is ENERGY STAR® qualified, passing savings on to you every month when the bills arrive! Additional features including an automatic humidistat control, automatic shut-off, and front water bucket for easy access make this an ideal unit for your home.
Amazon Sales Rank: #218960 in Kitchen & Housewares Brand: Haier Model: HDN655E Dimensions: 23.04" h x 14.97" w x 12.60" l, 42.00 pounds

Died After One Month This was a great dehumidifier while it worked. A plumbing leak resulted in water in my normally dry basement so I bought the Haier HDN655E dehumidifier to dry things out after the leak was fixed. It pulled the humidity in my basement down to 45% in a couple of days. After that I ran it on Sundays when I was in the basement working on my hobbies. Unfortunately it died completely after a few weekends of use. Looking around on the internet it appears this unit may have a propensity for blowing an internal fuse when power is cycled and the compressor and blower come on simultaneously. --- I really liked the electronic controls, the humidity setting and the timed off setting. The humidity readout is in increments of 5%, and tracked very close to a fairly expensive gauge I had nearby on the wall. The negatives: 1) The blower runs continuously when the desired humidity level is obtained, only the compressor stops, 2) Momentary power outages reset the humidity control to a default of 60% (and then the unit runs and runs any you wonder why it can't pull the humidity below 60%). --- I called Haier support since the unit was still under warranty, but the person who answered the phone was extremely curt and the repair process consisted of sending pieces of the unit back to service center in return for a new unit. It was easier just to return the whole unit to where I bought it. the best that I have used I have used other brands, namely, Sears (? manufacturer), LG, Goldstar and Whirlpool. HAIER seems to be the best. You can get it in Wal Mart for about $179. I have bought 2 in the past 2 years, for a large basement in a house in a wooded area. Wal Mart is, however, poor in maintaining an inventory of slow moving items, and it may not be available in all stores at all times. does the job This dehumidifier does exactly what it is supposed to do, removes H2O from the room. Great in our basement, no more "damp" feeling carpet and no worries the kids are playing in an unsafe enviroment. It is not "whisper quiet" as the Solarus promises, but I like the fact that it has an air output vent on the top that discharges de-humidified, dry, fresh air. Probably why it is a little louder than my old Kenmore dehumidifier. I like the air flow into the room. It is not too loud either. We use it in the laundry room with no door and you can still hear the tv on a low setting. Wouldn't want to sleep in the same room, though.

Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat
From Soleus International Inc.

The first portable dehumidifier on the market, weighing less than half that of other models. It has built-in wheels and a carrying handle, allowing it to be transported with little effort. With 25 pint large capacity front removable water bucket.
Amazon Sales Rank: #50349 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: White Brand: Soleus International Inc. Model: CFM-25 Dimensions: 13.00" h x 19.00" w x 24.00" l, 32.00 pounds

Unconventional but miles ahead This dehumidifier seems to be substantially superior if you have a living space to dehumidify or care about the amount of energy you use. It is, however, quite different from any other dehumidifier I have used. First of all, the controls are much simpler. You can only choose continuous dehumidification or three measured settings: 50%, 60%, and 70% RH. I thought I'd miss the continuous variability of my old unit, but these settings are the only choices I would really use. As a general principle, this seems like a better design because its easier to achieve accuracy at reasonable cost with three discrete measurements vs. a whole range. And I'm pretty sure it won't get stuck in the "on" position like the mechanical controls on my old noisemaker. Its light enough for an average guy to pick up, while my old unit would give me a hernia. While it wouldn't exactly add to my decore upstairs, it looks far better to my eye than most units. Its not going to satisfy the people that like industrial, in-your-face appliances. Speaking of noise, the Soleus is really quiet. The box says 39 db(A), but it seems like even less on the lowest fan speed. Its quite acceptable background noise for a bedroom or for watching a movie and night and day quieter than a standard dehumidifier. The fan, as B. Hughes noted, does run continuously. However, Home Energy magazine's 2002 article on basement humidity indicates this is better for efficiency as it tends to even out the humidity in your conditioned space. It certainly does a better job of keeping corners dry. The big selling point for me is efficiency. The Soleus excels here in several ways despite the fact that Soleus seems to have not bothered to get an Energy Star rating. Both the Canadian and US governments participate in the Energy Star program but the Canadian one actually gives you some useful dehumidifier data on their web site. By my calculations, the Soleus is roughly twice as efficient as the better models in its size class (measured in terms of liters/KWH, the CFM-25 rates about 2.4, while the *best* units on the Candian Gov't site in its size class clock in at 1.3. Obviously, Energy Star sets an exceptionally low bar for dehumidifiers). Additionally, most manufacturers only offer units too big for a small space, which means that they have to short cycle and won't reach their peak efficiency. The CFM-25 is much better sized for many smaller houses. Finally, here's some data I couldn't find anywhere -- but fortunately I have a nice watt meter. The fan on my CFM-25 takes 22 watts on low and 28 on high. My meter shows a power factor of 1, which is as good as it gets. On the low fan speed with the barely audible compressor running, that jumps up to about 205 watts and a PF of 0.9, which is still pretty good. I couldn't find a greener, easier to live with dehumidifier anywhere and am very happy this the CFM-25. Almost perfect We have spent this summer attempting to find a tolerable dehumidifier. Of the 5 brands we brought into our home this was the only one reasonable to use in a space where people live. It is truly quite. It actually pulls the water out of the air. It does not leak. It does not produce astounding amounts of heat. It's draw backs are: 1. Even though it is weighs about half that of those dehumidifiers using the traditional compressor technology, it is still rather hard to move due to having casters instead of wheels. 2. The water catcher is more cumbersome to remove with grace than in other brands. Extremely Poor Customer Service - Avoid this Company I was extremely impressed by all the great reviews that this dehumidifier received which prompted me to make my own purchase. The first unit I received would not collect any water, not even a drop. I noticed that another consumer who wrote a review had a similar problem. Since the 1-800 number for customer service for Soleus would not return my call, I had to contact Amazon.com for a replacement. I might note that Amazon.com reacted extremely quickly to my concern and I had my replacement Dehumidifier the following day after I contacted them. Unfortunately, the 2nd unit produced similar problems. The only way the unit would collect any water was if it was operating in the "continuous" mode. When one of the humidity levels was selected for the operating mode, once again, not even a drop of water would be collected and despite the user manual clearly indicating that when the humidity level was reached the unit would automatically turn off, it never did.....it would run constantly (which is a waste of electricity) and it wasn't even collecting any moisture from the air. Well, I attempted to contact the Soleus 1-800 number again to only reach a voice mail service AGAIN. I called this number at various times of the days and I never reached a person, only their answering machine. Naturally, I left my return telephone again as well as a good time of when to return my call M-F. Several weeks elapsed and I received no return telephone call. I then e-mailed the company and a few days later I finally received a return call from one of their customer service representative. This company originally attempted to suggest that the dehumidifier was operating normally. Since I was certain that it was not, I asked to speak to his supervisor and I outlined once again what the problem was. This supervisor provided me with instructions to perform a "test" and asked that I call them back the next day to advise if the unit was collecting water. The unit did not collect any water during the test therefore I called the company back. I should mention that rather than providing a 1-800 number to call them back, they provided a toll number for California hence I was forced to pay for the call several times. The company acknowledged at that point that "yes" the product was defective. They also offered to send me a replacement however I was instructed that I would have to absorb the cost of the shipping. I informed the customer service rep. that I was not paying for the shipping for this defective product and I asked if they would provide a return mailing label for postage. He claimed he was unable to authorize payment for the shipping and I told him I would like him to confer with his supervisor and call me back. Three days elapsed before I received a call and the Supervisor also advised me that they would not pay for the shipping to return the product. I patiently explained to him that I was willing to try a replacement product again, despite the fact that it would be the 3rd unit, but only if they absorbed the cost of the postage. I wasn't about to pay $25-$30 in postage when I already paid over $125 for a defective product. I also told this supervisor that if they would not pay for the postage, I was going to contact Amazon.com and request a refund, not a replacement hence they were going to loss my business. The supervisor would still not provide return postage. Long and short of this message, the customer service for this company is beyond terrible. You are unable to contact them at your convenience because the 1-800 number never reached a person but instead an connects you to an answering machine. In addition, this company is extremely slow in contacting you back, it's possible that you won't receive a return call until you contact them through their e-mail address. Lastly, don't be surprised if they attempt to tell you that the unit is operating properly when you know that it is not. To top off this story, the supervisor at Soleus had the audacity to suggest that he could provide his e-mail address for me to contact him in the event I had any problems in returning the unit AGAIN through Amazon.com. Naturally, I declined his offer. I have a lot more confidence in Amazon.com in taking the proper corrective action in this case than I do in Soleus to intervene on my behalf if I did run into any problems. I'm happy to report that Amazon.com did the right thing again and they are sending me a mailing label to return this defective unit. I am not getting a replacement again nor will I ever buy anything in the near future from the Soleus Company. If you don't want to experience any major headaches, I would steer clear of this company.

Danby 40 pint dehumidifier DDR4009EE This is a very good dehumidifier. I've tried others, and was very diappointed in their noise and performance. The Danby arrived in a very well designed and sturdy packing box, and was very easy to set up--unpack it, and plug it in. I've been using it in my basement office for about a month, and it has collected about a gallon of water every day. Musty smell (the reason for our purchase) was gone within a week. Background nose is not loud, it actually provides a little white noise to block out other sounds in the house. We're very happy with our purchase; based on our experience so far, we would readily buy it again. You will need to buy 4 new filters a year at about $15 each Their write up about the removable/cleanable filter was very misleading. It has that. but it also requires you to replace a different filter quartely -- and for about $15 a pop. Total annual cost to maintain = $60 per year. hat kinda sucks, and I would return it if I could. Beware Danby dehumidifiers We bought model DDR3008EE in 6/08 . It worked well at first, but in Fall 2008 ate a lot of power, and its anti-icing function appeared to stop working. We didn't use it over the winter. We turned it on in 7/09 and found its coils would not cool. Other than the fan blowing air, it was totally non-functional. A local shop confirmed that the coolant had leaked out. It took many calls to Danby just to finally get a human being instead of a machine. The man told me Danby couldn't help us as the 1 year warranty had run out. We paid $242 for this piece of junk. We won't ever buy a Danby product again.

Reliable, quiet, and effective.4
This is one of the first home appliances I've purchased from Amazon, and while its hard to give a glowing review for something so mundane as a dehumidifier, I'm pleased with the way this one works.

Our basement is basically a finished root cellar, in a 19th Century home. We have work supplies, clothing, some exercise equipment as well as some musical instruments stored down there, so keeping the humidity level down is a critical need to preserve what we store down there.

The unit has a small footprint, takes up about the same space as a paper shredder. It's quiet, and in our cellar, which is probably no more than 700 sq ft, on the mid-level setting the unit fills up within about 48-72 hours, depending on recent weather (if it rains a lot, it fills up in less time).

The catch basin has a drainage hose in the event your basement/cellar has a central drain, or a swivel handle on the inside for easy removal and dumping. The fill level also leave enough room from the top so that water does not accidentally spill when transporting it for dumping. Overall a smart design feature.

I can't speak for the energy efficiency of the unit (though it seems to be rated well), but overall it does the job, and I am pleased with the product. I notice that the drier air in our cellar seems less musty then it did before I installed the unit.

great for cold areas5
Love this little wonder. It is in an unheated area and doesn't freeze up and shake like the ones from Sears. It's been in use for months with not one problem. But failed at 13 months but I can't change the star rating.

Longer drain hose4
The drain hose for continuous operation is only 3 ft long. I have drainage sumps, but the optimum position would require at least 6 ft. Unfortunately the connector has an interface that will not accept a garden hose. The hose will attach, but the water ends up in the tank. So, only the original hose and connector will work.

Does anyone know if there is a longer hose available?

Thumbs down on this1
I bought this from Amazon on August 9, 2007. It worked fine at first. I emptied it about once a week and it was almost full.

Great for my closet.

However this last week, I emptied it as usual, and when I plugged it back in and tried to turn it on, nothing happened.

I have called Amcor and they promised to get back to me in 24 hours. That was almost a week ago.

If they do get back to me I will post again about what they said/did.

I guess I will have to just get one of those big, real dehumidifiers from the hardware store. Too bad, this is just the right size for what I need.

but we are coming into the rainy season here and humidity is 87%

Oct. 15, 2007. No word from AMCOR in reply to my phone call. I emailed them today and received a reply. I have to give them my credit card information so they can charge me for shipping! I have to pay to ship my non-working unit and also for them to ship me a replacement! From AUSTRALIA!!!

Oct 16, 2007. After not working all last week, I tried it several days in a row... it now is working again. When it first came on it made a rattling noise for a few moments, then became quiet again. It is working, but NOW when the AC adaptor is plugged in, the radio in the same room makes a high whining noise. It didn't before.

also, the last time I emptied it, the red light was on, and it had turned off due to being full.

Previously I had always emptied it before that point. Maybe that caused the problem? Not a good feature...

so I am again pleased with it, except that I have to turn it off if I want to listen to the radio. Or I could put the Adaptor in the next room and use a very long extension cord, I suppose... Comment | Permalink | Why no voting

Oct. 30, 2007
Okay it worked well for the last couple of weeks. I emptied it before it got full and it started up when I plugged it in again.

However, last night, I looked in at it, and it had stopped. It was less than half full, so it should not have turned itself off. The adaptor still had a green light on.

I emptied it again and plugged in, tried to turn on. No response.

A few days ago I thought it was making a louder sound than before, sort of a huffing sound.

Also this unit and the adaptor both get quite warm when in use.

I think the motor is going, or has gone out. Based on my experience two weeks ago, I will continue to try to start it every other day or so...
maybe it will start up again.

One email I got from Amcor about it said that it is "clearly written in the Warranty, that shipping to and from the factory is paid by the customer"
Yes, but it is also a YEAR Warranty. and this worked for two months, then a week break, then for two weeks. and now?

I expect a one-year warranty means the item is likely to last a year without needing to be replaced.

last only 6 months or less2
I have purchased 4 of them. They work great, while they last. Never works for 12 months. Per the manafacture box states to contact them directly, but them dont call back. Too bad.

Piece of C**p. 1
I purchased this late in February 2008 specifically for the small space that they say it is made for. Mine happens to be in a storage closet where I keep some equipment and artwork that I want to remain dry (obviously). It was installed end of February or early March and started making noise last week- by Friday it stopped completely. No motor, no lights, nothing. Trying to get anyone in customer service has proven to be a nightmare, and finally when I did, she took my information and said someone would get back to me within 3 days. 3 days has passed and now I cannot seem to get anyone again to even pick up!!! I'll see if Amazon will credit me and deal with their own vendor!!! This shouldn't be sold at all.

Build Your Own Air Conditioner or Dehumidifier: Increase the Cooling Effect of Your Fan.
By John Patterson

This publication gives details on properly preparing chilled or frozen containers and arranging them to cool a fan's airflow. The arrangements described are meant to give the reader ideas for inexpensive ways to cool and lower the humidity of interior spaces. Examples given can be used to supplement or replace an air conditioner and are ideal for use in an apartment. Several designs with various types of fans are discussed.

Does help, lot of information.5
I got this when I was having trouble with my Air Conditioner and I wanted to cool my den a little to make it more comfortable in the late afternoon. I have a fairly large freezer and so freezing the aluminum cans and plastic bottles as described was no problem and using them with my small turbo fan did work a lot better than just using the fan alone. I usually get about a cup full of water in the tray. This is a short book but does have a lot of information and pictures.

Piece of junk1
Problem started within a day, the bucket full light turned on even when the bucket is nowhere near full. Became progressively worse until it would not run at all, with the warning light constantly on. Thought it was a sticking float switch. Removed the bucket and fiddled with the switch inside, no effect. Complete waste of time and money.

Efficient dehumidifier4
The Frigidaire FDF70S1 seems to be a very effective dehumidifier, as it was able to reduce the humidity in a large room by approximately 20% in about three hours. I ran it overnight and the water bucket was about 1/4 full by the morning; this was after emptying the bucket before going to bed.

Setting the unit up is a complete no-brainer. You just plug it in, press the power button, set the humidity level, set the fan speed, and go. The entire process takes about one minute.

The unit will turn off if the water level gets too high. This is a good thing. If you want to use the unit continuously, you can attach a garden hose to an outlet on the unit and it will constantly drain and will run without interruption.

The only complaint I have with the unit is the noise level. I bought this for use in a bedroom in hopes that it would help with my son's asthma, but the fan in the unit is quite loud. There are two fan speeds and the lower fan speed is better, but it is still pretty loud. It reduces humidity quite a bit quicker with the fan set to high, from what I can tell, but it is simply too loud to use in that manner if you are going to be in the room with it.

Bottom line: I would expect that this unit would be PERFECT for drying a basement or something of that nature, but it is a bit loud for occupied rooms.

4/5 stars.

Intermittent operation1
We had ours for 6 days and had to take it back because it won't run right on anything but continuous operation. After 2 days we switched from continous operation to % humidity settings just like the manual recommends and here is what happened. The unit came on for about 10 seconds, off for about 15 seconds and back on again, off again, on again over and over....... and about drove us nuts. We left if turned off for a day and tried again with the same results. What made the rapid on-off operation more annoying is that fact that the unit is rather noisy to begin with. Our basment is @ about 65 degrees and the humidity dropped from 72% to 60% when this started happening. After doing some research on line we discovered that we weren't the only ones having problems with this model. The moral of the story is to do the research before you buy, not afterwards! Hope this helps. RC

Dehumidifier That Really Eliminates Humidity5
It is like the Sahara in my basement. OK. I am exaggerating, but this dehumidifier is really working. My humidity dropped 20% in 2 days. The only issue is I cannot empty the water fast enough. I have heard that after a year or so there may be issues with its reliability but for now, it is humming. DiabilityBuzz.com was right on with its review.

Well executed4
This dehumidifier will nicely done, and has several well executed details. For example:
Hose drain connect has a cap that can be replaced.
It includes a three foot hose.
The drip bucket has a handle inside it.
The whole unit has a handle on the top, making it easy to carry.
It has a basic filter on the back to prevent dust buildup on the coils.
It is reasonably quiet, at least compared with my 9 year old white-westinghouse. It might be too loud in a bedroom, but I can't hear it in my basement until I'm 2/3rds the way down the steps.
It is energy star rated, and (according to the manual) consumes 520 watts of energy.

I take one star away because water can drip into the bucket even if the hose is connected if it isn't leveled just right for the water to go down the hose. If you have it such that a little water gets into the bucket AND the hose, it may be a potential for mold growth. This is a design problem that is fairly easy to overcome once you are aware of it.

Hassle-free and effective5
I first became aware that I needed a humidifier when the condensation from my basement walls left mildewy puddles on the floor. My basement is about 900 square feet. I did a lot of research online, and although I couldn't find a review for the Haier, it had a lot of the features I was looking for (45-pint, Energy Star, Auto-Shut-off-when-full, price, etc). I left the settings on full at first; in one day there was no visible water, in two days there was no obvious dampness, and by the third or fourth day, I turned the settings to normal, and the unit began clicking off when it reached its target humidity level. Because it's in my basement, I'm not really aware of the noise, but it's quite a bit quieter than the air conditioning. If you compare it to your average box fan with three settings, I would say it's substantially quieter than the highest setting and a little bit louder than the medium setting. I've run it continuously since May and haven't noticed a huge difference in my electricity bills.

Stopped working after 9 months. Read Reviews Carefully!1
The positive reviews for this dehumidifier are most often from people who just started using it and are happy with the features. The fact is, I was happyt too until it stopped working after 9 months. There are 3 out of 14 reviews like that, one of which had it not work from the beginning. I would be interested to have people who wrote their reviews shortly after buying to update after 2 years of use. Even without this, 3/14 (over 20%) failure rate isn't good for one year of use!

I used this dehumidifier in the basement of my house. This worked fine and then stopped dehumidifying after 9 months. I don't feel that a dehumidifier should stop working after such a short period of time. I examined the inside: The compressor gets very hot and the cooling coils are not cold at all, except for a very small region of thin tubing connecting two banks of coils. Water condenses on this small portion but on no other part of the coils so total condensate is <1 ounce of water/12 hours. Deffective!

Works, but makes a mess.3
This product works, but is a huge mess to try to set up. The dry chemical is finer than the mesh on the dome lid, so it falls through if you tilt the product at all. The review said that it would last for months, but my chemical melted completely away after only two weeks. It did collect water, but it didn't seem worth the mess and short-life.

it works4
I got this thing not expecting it to work. I got it for my game/movie room since it's very humid and I have a lot of electronics and CD/DVD/Bluray discs there. I have to say it works great but the only downside of this thing is that when you're ready to replace the thingy or empty the water inside, you can really make a mess... and in my case, with all the electronics, it can turn out to be disastrous.

All in all... it works great!

Beware Danby dehumidifiers1
We bought model DDR3008EE in 6/08. We won't ever buy a Danby product again.

continuous fan noise & power2
This seems like a reasonable unit, but I bought it primarily for the low-noise and power saving claims, but I find that the fan runs continuously, meaning continuous noise and power usage.

Several other Units I have had in this usage run 1-2 hours/day, so are significantly better.

I liked its adjustable hygrometer (30-90%), but am returning it for a unit with auto-shut-off.

Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer
From Eva-dry

This mini dehumidifier has been design to adsorb moisture from small enclosed areas. It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the eva-dry unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "re-newed". The unit will adsorb approximately 6 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 3 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specialized engineered crystallized silica gel that is odorless, non-toxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink it is time to "re-new" the unit. Simply remove the unit from where it is adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet in a well ventilated area (bathroom with extraction fan, garage, outside, etc.). There is a built-in heater that will warm the crystals allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 8-10 hours to completely re-new the unit. When it is completely renewed the indicator crystals will change back to blue. The unit is brand new again and ready to adsorb another 6 ounces of moisture. The crystals will remain active for 10 years and we offer a 5 year limited manufactures warranty on all EDV300 units.

KK "Reader" MISUSED the product: Do NOT plug in...5
You do NOT plug it in in the humid room. You plug it in when you want to RELEASE the collected moisture!

I've weighed mine repeatedly on a postal scale and the cyclic change shows it's working - it will absorb and release about 1/2 cup (4 oz) of water.

Works like a charm; love that it's renewable5
We were steaming off wallpaper in our house which is a pretty damp job, so I picked up two EvaDry units (the EDV-300 and the EDV-500) from Amazon, and I'm very please with the results. Both are very easy to use; just take them out if the package, set them in a damp area, and they go to work. The little globules that you can see through the tiny window on the front gradually turn from blue to a very light pink as they fill up with moisture. When they're all totally pink, you just flip out the fold-down plug on the back, plug it into the wall (it hangs by its plug on the outlet), and it dries itself out. When the globules return to a dark indigo blue, you unplug it and it's soaking up moisture again.

Since the wallpaper project, we've been keeping them in a storage area in the basement, and they've effectively been removing the moisture (and the subsequent smells) from there as well.

What's really neat about these is the technology. I love that it's renewable and easy to use, and I feel a lot better since it's in an enclosed case; I no longer have to worry about pet poisoning or toxicity like I have in the past with those white pellets that were exposed to everyone and everything to possibly touch (or eat!). This is a much better system, and I love that it's easy to use and creates no mess or waste.

One thing to note is that they can get pretty hot if you leave them plugged in for a very long time (like a week). No problems, it just seems like an avoidable risk when you can just unplug them the next day or as soon as they're ready.

Regarding another reviewer's concerns about his or her inability to distinguish the differences in color: If you're using them properly, it's incredibly easy to distinguish between the colors at their extremes (and I'm even a little bit colorblind). Yes, as it soaks in moisture, some beads soak it in faster than others, making some pink while others remain blue. But if you leave it alone and let it do it's job, it will be unmistakeable when they all become a very light pink. Same with drying out; the rich indigo color is unmistakeable. You may want to give it another try.

Great for Basement, Closet, Garage!5
This is the BEST mini dehumidifier I have seen. No Chemicals. No Batteries. No Fuss. Just hang it in the damp room - mine is in the basement. When the beads turn pink, plug it into an outlet and it "burns out" the water, ready to be put to work again. It has completley eliminiated that damp, musty smell from my room.
