Remove up to 25 pints of water per day in rooms up to 3,000 square feet with this fully portable dehumidifier. Its full-function electronic controls include a simple "on/off" button, a "fan" button for changing the fan speed to either high or low, helpful indicator lights, and a digital readout that shows the room's relative humidity. Press the "Cont" button for continuous dehumidifying at the lowest relative humidity (25 percent). To set a specific humidity level, use the up and down arrows; the dehumidifier provides a maximum setting of 80 percent and a minimum setting of 35 percent. The unit operates between 41 and 96 degrees F, and its washable filter removes both moisture and airborne particulates. When the water bucket reaches its 17-pint capacity, the unit will shut down and the "water full" indicator will illuminate. Its easily accessible collection container can be removed for emptying at the nearest sink. For added convenience, the unit can be set up to continuously drain if located near a suitable drain, and its durable casters make it easy to maneuver. To ensure best results, remove the filter every two weeks and wash with clean water. The water bucket can be cleaned with warm water and detergent, and the cabinet wipes clean easily using a damp cloth. The 25-pint dehumidifier measures 16-3/4 by 13-3/4 by 24-5/8 inches and carries a one-year warranty.
Poor engineering, poor execution I have the 45 pint version of this dehumidifier and agree with the comments that the external drain is very poorly designed and very poorly executed. When I received the unit I had to take a panel off to discover how to use the external drain as the manual was not clear. When I did look inside it was obvious how the drain was supposed to work, and it was obvious that it was not going to work because inside the case there is a thin walled plastic tube (not the tiny diameter tube the other review mentions) which was kinked and would not allow water to pass. After repairing that and putting it all back together the drain worked fine for a week or two until the tiny hose mentioned in the other review became clogged. I had a Whirlpool which was very much like this unit. It had a drain that worked fine, but the unit stopped working after two years of use--it lost its refrigerant. This unit seems to have no particular advantage over the Whirlpool unless it is still working after two years. If so I may think it is a better machine than the Whirlpool, but currently I think they are both just more junk from China that work barely well enough to get out the door of the store. I don't know if there's anything better on the market for the price. Is anyone else old enough to remember when a refrigerator from Frigidaire would last for thirty or forty years? Those were made by someone else. It does what it says After quite a bit of research, I settled on this brand/model for a storage room in my basement that was starting to get that musty basement smell. The room is about 500 square feet and this dehumidifier seems to be working quite well. Set up was easy, basically just take it out of the box and turn it on. Since there is a floor drain in my basement storage room, I set up the unit to drain through the provided hose to eliminate having to empty the catch pan. There was an attachment included in the box to hook up the drain hose to a garden house, but it was shattered and not useable, so the unit sits right next to the floor drain. The unit itself is noisy, about as loud as a box fan on medium setting, which isn't a problem since it's in a closed room in the basement. It also generates heat, which in the winter time is a good thing in the otherwise cold basement. My storage room is about 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the basement but it doesn't have that musty smell anymore. I would give it 5 stars, but the drain hose is only 6" long, and it is difficult to attach, and the garden hose adapter was broken. Although not a problem in the winter, the heat generated by this unit may not be as welcome in the summer months. Overall, after a month of use, I would recommend this product. Continuous draining? Forget it! I have no doubt that this dehumidifier will work well if you want to empty the collection bucket (which you would have to do at least once a day). But if you want the water to drain continuously into a sump well or a French drain, you're out of luck. I got a larger version of this same model home and discovered that instead of taking a standard hose attachment, the hose adapter necessitated the water passing through a plastic piece that had a diameter of about 1/16 of an inch! (see the pictures and tremble) Nevertheless I tried it, and found in the morning that the teeny-tiny space was already clogged shut. Took it off and water came out the hose, so the blockage was in the teeny-tiny attachment. This was a recipe for disaster, and one of the stupidest engineering fiascos I've ever seen, and the people at the store agreed with me when I returned it for a Whirlpool, which has a standard attachment. If any dust or scum gets into that tiny Frigidaire hose, it stops draining. Also, the manual described wrongly where to put the rubber cap that you take from the back of the spigot, and when I put it in the supposedly correct place, it fell right out. I called Frigidaire's customer service number, and the results were laughable, since I talked to a woman who had apparently never even touched a dehumidifier, and was getting all her info from the same manual that I already had. Avloid this one, unless you don't mind emptying the bucket and never go on vacation in the summer.

Soleus Air CFM-40 E 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat
From Soleus Air

The first portable dehumidifier on the market, weighing less than half that of other models. It has built-in wheels and a carrying handle, allowing it to be transported with little effort. With 40 pint large capacity front removable water bucket.

Works great! I installed this unit in my basement about 8 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly ever since. Things I noticed: If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically (as some other units do.) If you want to use the continuous drainage (which I highly recommend) via a hose, you have to punch out a plastic disc on the side of the unit. I would have designed a screw-type plug that was replacable, but they didn't think of that. Anyway, once you punch the quarter-size disc out it's out forever. If you choose to use the continuous drainage feature, you will need to pick up a hose with an inner diameter of 15mm (.59" or just over half an inch.) I went to the local DIY center and found some clear tubing that has worked well. The unit can operate down to 2-degrees C (36-degrees F), which will be great for continuous operation in the garage to keep the tools from rusting. Has three fan settings: med, high and quiet. "Quiet" really is quiet, and could probably work just fine in a bedroom. Though, it does warm the room it's in. How much it warms it depends on the humidity setting. Four settings: The humidty level (humidstat) can be set to "continuous dehumidification" (which is the default setting), 50%, 60% and 70%. The fan will continue to run but the dehumidification processor will turn off when it reaches the selected humidity level. Cool. I mean, that's when the fan will just blow room-temp air. A full drainage tank will stop the unit and illuminate a "tank full" indicator light. The unit is not that heavy -- maybe for some, but not nearly as heavy as some people make it sound. It's 30.8 pounds. According to the instructions: You will need at least 21 cm (about 8 inches) of clearance in front, behind and side to side. Air blows out of the top of the unit, so you'll need to make sure it's clear as well. There are movable louvers on the top to direct the air straight up, 45-degrees or almost straight ahead. Power consumption: CFM-25E is 220W // CFM-40E is 330W I highly recommend this model dehumidifier. ***15-month UPDATE: It is still working like a champ! We haven't had one single problem with it, and I don't foresee ever really having one in the near future. I've been running this thing nonstop and it has only required me to clean the filter on the back (which takes 5 minutes.) It has remained as quiet as the day I bought it. It's awesome! Works well I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly basement use, but wanted one quiet enough for use upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. My refrigerator is louder. I also own a Fedders 45 pint unit and a Whirlpool 65 pint noise maker. The Fedders (Maytag) was the quiet champ untill I purchased the Soleus Air CFM-40E. The Whirlpool removes an amazing amount of water, but can be heard UPSTAIRS when running in the basement. So it is used only when needed. The Soleus Air is so quiet I have to go down the basement stairs and visually check to see if the unit is on. Can't say that for many dehumidifiers. My only complaint is that the fan is always on, even when it has reached the set humidity level. This prevents the short cycling the others do, on for 2 minutes off for 2 minutes or so, but I think prevents an Energy Star certification. At 2.9 amps it draws significantly less than the Fedders 5.6 amps and the Whirlpool's 7.9 amps. The Soleus Air works great (so far) upstairs in the spring, when it is cool but damp, like the weather this week. Here in Wisconsin it is in the 60's but rainy, so the house is humid. Running the central air is not necessary since the house is not hot. So I use a dehumidifier, which makes the house seem less clammy. I would recommend the Soleus Air CFM-40E to anyone who is looking for a small, really quiet, relatively light, medium capacity (40pint) dehumidifier that simply does what is supposed to do (remove water from air) with out excess noise. *******3 Year Update****** This dehumidifier has been working flawlessly for 3 years of nearly constant use. Other than cleaning the filter and the occasional collection tank clean out, maintenance has been minimal. I still can not get over how quiet this unit is, and it has not gotten any louder with age. I highly recommend this product, yes it is not cheap, but it works really well, and is very well built. Highest possible recommendation. Excellent balance of efficiency and effectiveness I currently have 5 dehumidifiers in different locations, and this one is the strikes the best balance of efficiency, reliability, effectiveness, and quietness. There are other models that can pull more moisture out of the air more quickly, but they are invariably much louder and MUCH more expensive to run.

LG 45 Pint Dehumidifier with Electronic Controls - Energy Star Rated

Works great, but it's LOUD The thing pulls humidity from the air more quickly than other units I've owned. The digital controls are great - with the analog ones, there's a lot of guesswork and tweaking to find the right humidity level. This is probably just the thing for you if you're putting it down in your basement and out of earshot. But this thing is *loud*. It's like putting marbles in a blender and setting it on chop. Look elsewhere if you want something to use in an apartment or the like. Junk Worked well for about a year, then the sensor on the bucket stopped working, causing the unit to overflow. Got that fixed, but the problem started happening again after another few months. Now, after two years, the thing has essentially stopped working. It runs, sure, but it doesn't draw any water out of the air. Very disappointed. CH01 We have a very damp basement and the dehumidifier ran for a year before the CH01 code appeared in the window. The manufacture's owner manual doesn't tell for what CH01 stands; doing on on-line search produced results that it is related to the bucket switch and there is no way to repair it. It also appeared from all the sites that it happens after about a year. I wouldn't recommend this LG dehumidifier or any of the other sizes.

Can Not Extract A Tear Drop I bought this unit to replace a 45 pint LG low temperature model that stopped working. It's for my finished basement that has an average temperature of 55-60 degrees. Last night, it didn't extract any moisture at all, though I had it set to "Max Dry." Today, I set it to "Continuous" and left it for an hour. I was skeptical of its "Accu-Dry" sensor, because my LG ALWAYS was able to extract something from the air if I set it to always on. I only have 30 days to return the unit, so I don't want to wait for the humidity of summer. I set up a humidifier 4 feet away from it and still nothing. I then put the humidifier in front of it, and still nothing. It cycles on, runs for a minute and then seems satisfied with the humidity level and cycles off. Meanwhile, the humidifier is blowing humid air all around it, and this unit is not extracting a single teardrop in its VERY small bucket. Nice looking unit, but useless. I will most likely buy another LG, which happens to still be in stock with the vendor I bought this unit from. Just awful! Yes, a dehumidifier makes noise. Having owned two others, each a different brand, I knew that already. But I should have paid more attention to a succinct review of this item that I saw elsewhere: "It wakes the dead." I would simply compare the sound it makes to a 747's engines - there's nowhere in the house one can get away from it, and that's the truth. It also doesn't remove as much moisture in the same amount of time as did my humble little Maytag 30-pint model, and it leaks. No, I didn't keep it. What a relief that return was. Worked for 18 months and useless I purchased this model whirlpool dehumidifier because of its high rating on a consumer web site and whirlpools good customer service reputation. What a bunch of horse manure. Since sears purchased whirlpool and now handles warranty repairs it is awful. I called the 800 numbers was told that limited warranty, 5 years on sealed parts could only be repaired by authorized service center since a tech can't come to my house outside of Chicago, no tech in this area, WOW sears is based in Chicago. Oh well I will take it to SEARS, great a sears is 2 miles away, there everywhere. They took 2 months, got the unit back dirty and ding up, and it didn't work it still didn't work after 2 months at a repair center. I called back and they said, it would now cost a minimum of $45 and may cost up to $150. I paid $199 for the unit at Lowes on sale. I have read up on whirlpool dehumidifiers and I have noticed complaints are after 16 months of service, most don't last 2 years. Lousy customer service, I think I will never buy another whirlpool anything. I filed a complaint with the BBB, maybe they will help get it fixed right this time.
